Two drivers were seriously injured when over 20 cars were involved in a crash on the N12 Westbound in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 1 April 2025.
According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the two injured were taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
Eight additional motorists reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as the N12 Westbound was completely closed off on Tuesday evening including some lanes on the N12 Eastbound which were also closed for emergency services.
EMPD spokesperson Ann Makgatho said, “A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at Bedfordview Saps. The N12 remains closed as cleanups and investigations are still ongoing.”
Previous multi-vehicle collisions in Edenvale
Similarly, on Monday, 20 May 2024 two people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the N12 in Edenvale.
The collision involved 11 vehicles including 3 trucks, and 8 light motor vehicles.
The drivers of two vehicles were declared dead on the scene, while two other sustained serious injuries.
In another incident which happened on 8 February 2023, three people were killed and 43 others were injured in a deadly Edenvale collision which involved a bus, truck and several cars.
The collision also occurred on the N12 highway towards the Edenvale offramp in Johannesburg.
