Tshwane’s Legal Services Department is probing a rehabilitation notice sent by Mayor Murunwa Makwarela.
The validity of the judicial rehabilitation order provided by troubled Tshwane mayor Murunwa Makwarela has come under scrutiny.
Makwarela submitted the letter to the city manager’s office on Thursday in an effort to keep his position as mayor after news broke of an unresolved bankruptcy case going back to 2016.
He was subsequently reinstated as mayor.

Makwarela was ineligible to serve as mayor and councillor because it is against the law for someone who has been declared insolvent to occupy a public office.
Legal specialists have questioned the document’s validity because of a number of glaring inconsistencies in it.
