A horrific truck collision on the N4 in Mpumalanga has claimed the life of one of the truck drivers who unfortunately burnt to death.
The tragic crash occured on the N4 toll road between Nkomazi toll plaza and Malelane, causing the highway to close.
Reports suggest both coal trucks were involved in a head-on collision at high speed. The impact of the collision is believed to have caused one of the trucks to burst into flames.
However, the cause of the collision is not yet known and an investigation will be underway.
According to reports, another light motor vehicle crashed into the two trucks which led to four others sustaining injuries.
One truck driver was burnt beyond recognition after the truck was engulfed in flames, and was declared dead on scene.
Paramedics stabilised the others who were injured, before they were transported to hospital for further treatment.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen confirmed the death of the driver.
“One of the trucks caught fire, engulfing the occupant, a male driver believed to be approximately 40-years of age. Unfortunately, he was burnt beyond recognition and declared dead on arrival of paramedics. The driver of the second truck was treated for minor injuries only.”
