A trainee South African Police Service (SAPS) officer was shot and killed during combat training in Limpopo.
According to the SAPS, the death of a student police officer who was slain on Sunday during a tactical training exercise in Limpopo is being looked into by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
The student was reportedly accidentally murdered at the Thabazimbi Tactical Academy, according to Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
“It is alleged that the new recruits were undergoing tactical and combat training when the student officer was accidentally killed. Ipid will pronounce on the outcome once the investigation is complete,” said Suping.

Gen. Fannie Masemola, the commissioner of the national police, described the occurrence as unfortunate.
“We request space to conduct a thorough investigation. We pledge our full support to the family of the deceased and all affected.” said Masemola
Psychologists, social workers, and chaplains from the employee health and wellness (EHW) component are offering psychosocial support to the deceased person’s family and all others who are affected, according to police spokesman Col. Athlenda Mathe.
