The Mdhluli family has expressed relief following police confirmation that the human remains discovered in Limpopo belong to murdered journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Mdhluli.
On Wednesday, 4 June 2025, police said that DNA analysis confirmed that the remains found last month in Rust de Winter are those of the couple who went missing in Mpumalanga in February.
Speaking to Kaya News in Tembisa, East of Johannesburg, Mdhluli’s family shared that Zodwa would have been celebrating her birthday on Thursday.
“If she were still with us, today would have been a joyful day,” a family member said, adding that it was a tradition to celebrate her birthday together.
Meanwhile, seven suspects who are linked to the murders of Mdhluli and Ndlovu appeared in the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court earlier this week. They face various charges, including kidnapping, house robbery, and possession of stolen property.
