A fatal shooting incident in Mofolo Central has brought traffic to a standstill, prompting authorities to issue urgent warnings to motorists and residents.
The incident, which occurred on Mahalefele Road and Nape Avenue, has resulted in road closures and diversions, causing significant delays.
The shooting has been linked to taxi violence in the region. Three men were killed in a shootout this morning were confirmed to be part of the Witwatersrand African Taxi Association (WATA).
According to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the shooting took place on Monday morning, claiming the lives of multiple individuals.
“Reports indicate three men were shot, with fatal consequences,” Fihla confirmed.
The JMPD has advised motorists to avoid the affected area, as traffic is being rerouted.
“Drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and seek alternative routes. Vehicles are currently being diverted at Machaba Drive and Mageza Street,” Fihla stated.
The road closures are expected to remain in place while authorities conduct their investigations. Residents in the vicinity are also urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
