These roads will be closed from 20-26 August for the BRICS Summit in Sandton.
Next week, the 15th BRICS Summit will be held in South Africa, which means that highways close to Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Center will be closed.
The 2023 BRICS summit is the fifteenth upcoming annual BRICS summit, an international relations conference.
The summit will be attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Roads will be closed from this Sunday, August 20 through Saturday, August 26. Drivers have been warned.
The Gauteng Police Board Initiative has indicated that the following roads will be closed:
- Maude Street – one-way traffic from 5th Street to West Street.
- West Street – lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be open for traffic.
- Alice Lane – lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be open for traffic.
- 5th Street – lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be open for traffic.
Gauteng Police Board Initiative has indicated that there will be a significant security presence around the Sandton CBD.
“The community is requested to be aware of the impact to routes during the Summit and follow traffic updates when travelling around the Sandton Convention Centre. As can be expected, there will be significant security presence around the Sandton CBD for the duration of the summit,” they said.
