Residents of Tembisa have shutdown the area staging a protest over a lack of service delivery on Monday, 01 August.
This after Mayor Mpho Phalatse failed to honour the community meeting that was called on Friday.
Disgruntled residents have been protesting for over a week over the mounting municipal rates and constant electricity issues.
The standoff between residents and police escalated on Wednesday, 27 July, and officials were forced to use rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowds.
Earlier this morning a truck was set on fire, obstructing all 3 lanes of the R21. The area has since been cleared, according to EMS.
Several roads have been blocked with burning tyres and rocks, and motorists are urged to avoid major routes in Tembisa.
