The Tembe family is adamant that slain rapper, AKA killed Anele Tembe.
On Friday, 17 February, on the day Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was remembered at his memorial service, the family of his deceased financée have through their lawyers shared scathing claims about the rapper’s involvement in Anele’s death.
The Tembe family issued the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) with a letter slamming their claims that there was no evidence to prosecute AKA for Anele’s death.
Anele who fell to her death from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in April 2021, was according to the family carried and thrown off the balcony.
Her family is adamant that Anele did not jump in an attempt to end her life, because her father Moses Tembe stands by his statement that his daughter did not battle any mental health issues.
Now, the Tembe family are motioning the NPA to release the docket to them which ruled out any foul play in Anele’s tragic demise.
This after the NPA shared why there would be no prosecutions in the case shortly after AKA’s murder.
In excerpts from the Tembe’s legal team which was published on City Press, the family is determined to appeal the NPA ruling and claims there was ample evidence against AKA.
According to the Tembe lawyers, AKA and hotel reception had fabricated their statements to the police.
AKA had reportedly maintained that he was on the phone with hotel reception requesting security because of a fight that he and Anele were embroiled in.
The rapper said in an interview a month after her death that he was on the phone in the bathroom at the time that Anele had fallen to her death.
While his statement was backed by hotel reception, Anele’s family deny this, saying the rapper made the call to hotel reception only after she landed on the ground.
The family claim that the NPA ignored key evidence including that AKA cleaned blood stains in the room. They say there were no fingerprints found on the balcony and that Anele was alive for 20-minutes before she succumbed to in injuries from the fall.
The Tembe family says during this time AKA was not with Anele on the ground, comforting her or giving her CPR, instead he was drinking and partying with his friends.
According to the City Press, the NPA said it was not at liberty to share any further details about Anele Tembe’s death with media.
AKA was laid to rest on Saturday, 18 February after being shot execution-style whilst in Durban on 10 February.
