A group of teachers from Hoërskool Ermelo escaped an armed robbery unscathed.
The teachers were on their way back from an athletics event, in Ermelo, Mpumalanga on Friday night.
The minibus they were travelling in hit a stone and one of the tyres punctured.
Stopping on the side of the road two of the male teachers got out of the bus to change the tyre.
Four other female teachers waited inside the bus. The group was then approached by armed robbers who pointed guns in the teacher’s faces and backs.
One of the armed men fired several shots which all missed the intended targets.
The robbers demanded the teachers hand over any firearms, money, laptops and cellphones.
Apart from shock, none of the teachers were harmed in the incident.
Help arrived shortly thereafter and the tyre was fixed so the teachers could make it safely back to the school.
