Approximately 8000 general and education assistants in Gauteng have yet to receive their stipends due to delays in the provincial Education Department’s ongoing data verification process.
Department spokesperson Steve Mabona explained that while some schools have successfully submitted validated information, a significant number of submissions are still under review.

The verification delays stem from issues such as duplicate or invalid ID numbers, incorrect banking details, and incomplete data entries.
“These discrepancies have affected the speed of the verification process,” said Mabona.
“Only assistants whose information has been fully verified and approved will receive payment.”
The department aims to finalise the process by the end of July 2025.
“Those still undergoing verification will be paid once their data has been cleared. We are working tirelessly to ensure this is completed as soon as possible,” he added.
Mabona says around 8000 assistants may be affected in the first payment cycle. Districts and schools have been instructed to communicate this update clearly to all affected individuals.
The department has assured all eligible assistants that full payments will be made once the verification process is complete.
