- Five people were brutally killed at a local tavern in Centurion over the weekend.
- The shooting has left community members and organisations shocked, questioning the rule of law.
- Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for 10 people who are allegedly behind the attack.
The Liquor Traders Association has raised serious concerns about law enforcement following the tragic killing of five people at a tavern in Olievenhoutbosch over the weekend.
The Association, which works to minimise alcohol-related social ills and promote compliance among liquor traders, questioned how the tavern was allowed to operate without proper licensing.
Association president Oupa Mthombeni said he was alarmed that the establishment remained open despite being non-compliant.
As the association, we are not blaming the police. I’m just wondering how this tavern was operating even though they didn’t have compliance papers.
We don’t have the authority to shut down non-compliant liquor traders — that responsibility lies with law enforcement. The police need to ensure incidents like this do not happen again. We cannot continue to tolerate this barbaric behaviour where lives are lost in taverns.
The Gauteng Police have since launched a manhunt for 10 suspects believed to be behind the brutal attack.
Despite these efforts, the Olievenhoutbosch community remains devastated and traumatised by the violence.
