There’s still no trace of 6-year old Khayalethu Magadla who fell into an open manhole in Dlamini, Soweto on Sunday.
On Tuesday, emergency search and rescue teams continued the search for the boy as hopes of finding him alive fade.
Community members went down the sewerage manholes themselves to try to find the boy, but efforts were futile.
Volunteers went looking down the manholes some 200 meters away from where Khayalethu fell.
Community members are taking matters into their own hands and conducting their own search for Khayalethu Magadla. They say it seems the water is not that deep at this hole which is about a 200 meters from the hole he fell in. They want EMS to come to this hole. @KayaNews pic.twitter.com/4avof6petM

It is believed the child was playing near the open manhole when he slipped and fell inside.
The boy’s family remain hopeful and say until they have confirmation of his death, they will keep praying he’s found alive.
However, after three days the odds of finding the child alive are not high.
Meanwhile, angry residents of Dlamini say they are growing tired of the municipality’s failure to close exposed manholes.
They say the matter has been reported as a hazard for the community and children in particular over two years ago and nothing has been done about it.
After Khayalethu fell into the manhole, authorities sealed the manhole, but it’s a gesture that’s considered too little too late.
