After suspending loadshedding at 05h00 on Tuesday morning, Eskom has confirmed that loadshedding will resume from 17h00 on Tuesday, 12 April.
This is due to continued shortage of generation capacity which the power utility says will last until 05h00 on Wednesday, 13 April.
Earlier this week, the power utility warned that loadshedding could be implemented at short notice.
Loadshedding was implemented on Monday following the breakdown of 4 generating units which put the grid under severe constraints.
Whilst one of the units, at Medupi returned to service during the night, three additional units at Camden Power Station tripped last night.
This coupled with the cold weather conditions has meant that the capacity limit was reached and loadshedding would be required to restore reserves.
Currently Eskom has 4 804MW on planned maintenance, and 14 449MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns.
The overnight loadshedding will be used to replenish the dam levels at the pump storage power stations in preparation for the rest of the week.
“Eskom would like to apologise for the implementation of loadshedding and would like to reiterate that loadshedding is implemented only as a last resort in order to protect the national grid.”
