Eskom has announced that Stage 1 and 2 loadshedding will be implemented from Tuesday evening, 09 January until further notice.
The power utility suspended loadshedding on Sunday, 07 January ahead of the ANC’s 112th birthday celebrations on Monday, 08 January.
In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Eskom said there had been several setbacks owing to the loss of 3 generating units which has necessitated the need for Stage 2 loadshedding to be implemented from 16h00.
A pattern alternating between Stages 1 and 2 will continue until further notice.
“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes should it be required.
Unplanned outages are currently at 14 953MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7 638MW.
Eskom Power Stations Managers and their teams are working tirelessly to ensure that 2 700MW of generating capacity is returned to service before the end of the week.
Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand for Tuesday is 24 977MW.”
The new Eskom CEO, Dan Marokane is expected to take the helm of the state-owned entity from 31 March 2024 at the latest.
