South Africans will have to find other ways of keeping warm this week, as Eskom has cranked up Stage 2 loadshedding to all day, every day until Sunday.
On Monday, 20 June, the power utility implemented Stage 2 loadshedding until Thursday, 23 June between 17h00 and 22h00.
However, due to the breakdown of four generation units on Wednesday, 22 June, Eskom has cranked up Stage 2 from 10h00 to midnight today.
From Thursday, South Africans can expect Stage 2 to be in full effect between 05h00 and midnight until Sunday, 26 June.
There’s a likelihood that Eskom may have to increase the stages during evening peaks.
In a statement, Eskom cites breakdowns at the Kendal and Matimba stations as well as two generation units at Matla for the change.
“Eskom will continue to monitor the system, adjust and communicate any changes as may be necessary. The reduced generation capacity by 2 400MW has added to the ongoing capacity constraints. There has been a delay in returning a unit at Kusile to service, which is now expected only tomorrow.”

Eskom further urges South Africans to reduce electricity consumption during the coldest parts of the winter days and nights, 05h00-10h00 and 16h00-22h00.
