Stage 2 loadshedding is in full effect from Monday evening until Thursday, between 17h00 and 22h00.
Eskom released a statement citing a continued shortage of generation capacity as the reason.
Early on Monday, 20 June, the power utility warned that the country could experience loadshedding at short notice.
This is due to the system being severely strained due to the cold weather. While there have been no recent reports of further breakdowns at Eskom, the state-owned entity says energy use remains high.
“We currently have 5 232 MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 202 MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.”

South Africans are urged to reduce consumption and Eskom says the system will remain constrained over the next few weeks.
