A trending video showing staff at a pizza establishment wiping down pizza boxes to reuse has South Africans up in arms.
Romans Pizza, to the front of the class please to answer why staff are wiping down used pizza boxes from the trash.
The video appears to be taken by another staff at the establishment, who films their colleague taking out discard Roman pizza boxes from a refuse bag and proceeds to wipe the inside of the boxes down.
It is unclear which Romans pizza outlet the incident took place at, and the brand has yet to respond to the disgust by social media users regarding whether this is a recurring trend by the establishment.
Are they trying to cut costs by reusing the pizza boxes? Is this happening at all Romans pizza outlets? How is this hygienic and what happens if customers get food poisoning?
These were some of the questions social media users asked after watching a staff member at Romans wiping down the boxes with a cloth and then using her hands to dust off scraps of cheese from the used boxes.
Staff at the pizza establishment then pick up the wiped-down boxes, seemingly to package orders, all the while a large stack of boxes are lined up against a wall.
