South African prison inmates reportedly passed the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams with a 96.2% percentage.
A percentage which is higher than the 93.2% rate they achieved in 2023.
A total of 171 inmates wrote the NSC exams, with 104 earning a bachelor’s degree.
Thirteen of the seventeen schools received perfect scores. They also outperformed the South African national pass rate of 87.3%.
Minister Minister of Correctional Services, Pieter Groenewald, congratulated the detainees and their educators.
“Matriculants, know you have contributed to the building of the nation. You are contributing to a better nation,” said Groenewald.
