- The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe resumes at the Cape Town Magistrates Court today, more than five years after she fell to her death from a Cape Town hotel.
- Six witnesses have been subpoenaed to testify about the circumstances surrounding her death, with proceedings scheduled to continue on several dates this month.
- The court is expected to hear evidence including CCTV footage, cellphone records, forensic reports and witness statements.
The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe resumes at the Cape Town Magistrates Court today, more than five years after her death.
Tembe died in April 2021 after falling from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.
At the time, she was engaged to rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, and the couple had been together in the hotel room shortly before her death.
Six witnesses have since been subpoenaed to testify about the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death.
Inquest proceedings are scheduled to take place from 7 to 9 September, and again on 15 and 16 September.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death and whether anyone can be held responsible.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) previously decided not to prosecute after considering forensic reports compiled by police.
The docket was later returned for further investigation before the matter was eventually enrolled for an inquest.
The court is expected to hear evidence from police investigators, forensic experts and other witnesses.
CCTV footage, cellphone records and witness statements are also expected to form part of the evidence presented before the court.
The inquest comes after both Tembe and Forbes died, meaning neither of the two people who were in the hotel room shortly before her death are alive to testify.
The proceedings are expected to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death.
