The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured a preservation order from the Special Tribunal to freeze a residential property in Hesteapark, Pretoria, linked to the late actor Presley Chweneyagae and his estate.
The order, granted by Judge M Victor on 18 December 2025, follows allegations that National Lotteries Commission (NLC) funds were unlawfully diverted to purchase the private residence.
The legal action is directed at the actor’s widow, Charlaine Christinah Chweneyagae acting both in her personal capacity and as the executrix of her late husband’s estate as well as Alfred Muzwakhe Sigudla and the Southern African Youth Movement (SAYM) NPO.
The ruling prohibits the sale, lease, transfer, or disposal of the property while the SIU prepares civil proceedings to recover the state’s losses.
According to the investigation, the property was purchased using approximately R889 000 diverted from a R15 million NLC grant intended for youth arts programmes.
The SIU found that the grant, initially approved for the SAYM, was channelled through Domestic Baboon (Pty) Ltd a company owned by the late Mr Chweneyagae to facilitate the acquisition of the home.
The SIU now has 60 court days to initiate formal civil proceedings. This move aligns with the unit’s primary mission to recover misappropriated funds from NLC grant beneficiaries involved in unlawful activities and to restore financial losses to the State.
