A Level 2 warning for the Northern and Western Cape has been issued, due to a severe thunderstorm that is expected to hit on Thursday, 31 March.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) said the Yellow Level 2 warning will lead to high waves and strong winds.
A south-westerly swell with wave heights between 4 to 6 metres is expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Aghulas. Conditions will likely spread to Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay by Thursday.
The impact of the storm will lead to localised disruption of small habors and ports in the following areas:
- King Sabata Dalindyebo
- Mthatha
- Amahlathi
- Stutterheim
- Mnquma
- Butterworth
- Raymond Mhlaba – Fort Beaufort
- Great Kei
- Komga
- Buffalo City
- East London
- Ngqushwa
- Peddie

Meanwhile, Eskom has shared that the inclement weather may affect the network and can affect power supply. The power utility is predicting that parts of Buffalo City Metro, Great Kei, Amahlathi, Raymond Mhlaba, Ngqushwa, Mbashe and King Sabatha Dalindyebo Local Municipalities.
Eskom urges customers to use the app to log faults and to be patient if the storm does damage infrastructure leading to prolonged periods without electricity.
