Senzo Meyiwa’s mother said she cried all night after having her bank account emptied by scammers.
Speaking to Phumlani Dube on his YouTube channel, Nthombifuthi Meyiwa shared details of how she was scammed.
Falling victim to a group of con-artist posing as policemen, Nthombifuthi who lives in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, said a woman had come up to her in the mall and struck a conversation with her.
The mother of slain former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, said she always warned her children about criminals who do this but in the end, it was her who fell for their trap.
“She picked up a purse on the floor which was in front of my trolley inside the supermarket. Then we were approached by a group con-artists posing as policemen. These bogus cops demanded I hand over my belongings, saying it was to search for stolen items.”
Unsuspecting, Senzo Meyiwa’s mother handed all her belongings to the men, including her ATM pin. But the “policemen” never returned.
“I went to the bank and they said the money had been withdrawn. I cried until dawn and I regretted it because I always warned children about criminals but they caught me.”
Now 8-years since her son was shot and killed in a botched robbery in Vosloorus, Meyiwa’s mother wants justice for his murder.
The case has resumed in the Pretoria High Court, with the 5 men accused pleading not guilty to all charges.
Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso has said the family just want the truth, after years of intimidation and police who beat around the bush.
