The South African Weather Service (SAWS) reports that the Western Cape is still at risk as it gets ready for a second cold front, even as an extreme cold front passes away from most of the nation. There has been little snowfall and rainy, windy, and cold weather in the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, Eastern Cape interior, and Western Cape.
“The Western Cape faces another cold front as the rest of the country gets a bit of a break from the hectic weather we’ve faced over the past few days. Strong interior winds are still forecast,” the SAWS said.
Severe disruptions and damage were experienced in the Western Cape, including road closures owing to flooding or snow, fallen trees, energy shortages, and people being forced to leave informal settlements.
Since then, the meteorological service has raised the level 6 to 8 weather warning for the Western Cape. 70 neighborhoods in Cape Town experienced flooding as a result of the bad weather in the Western Cape, affecting 7,000 informal settlement buildings.
Along with significant and disruptive snowfall across the southern and western high ground, the country was battered by a series of cold fronts.
Two more cold fronts on the way towards the end of the week. Possible flooding for the Western Cape as the rain persists. For the rest of the country, fine and cool to warm conditions can be expected. pic.twitter.com/I9HtnY0sMO
