The Chief Executive Officer of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Themba Matlou, has called on senior officials to actively assist beneficiaries identified for review in the August payment cycle.
The reviews, described as a crucial tool to safeguard the state’s finances and ensure grants reach only eligible recipients, are expected to draw large numbers of beneficiaries to SASSA offices in the coming days.
Matlou emphasised the importance of minimizing inconvenience for clients.
We are intent on assisting all our clients to have their grants reviewed as seamlessly as possible so that no one leaves our offices without being helped or burdened with unnecessary back and forth. This is why we want everyone, especially at the senior level, to get their hands dirty and be on the ground to assist our important clients.
He acknowledged that the current review process has tested SASSA’s capacity but assured that most payments will proceed without complications.
Matlou also urged beneficiaries not to be alarmed, encouraging them to comply with the review process, which will also allow for the updating of personal details to improve future communication.
