Speaking on Monday, 14 July, SASSA CEO Themba Matlou reiterated that all approved and valid grants remain active, with payments continuing as scheduled.
“Any beneficiary with an active and valid grant remains entitled to receive their payment,” Matlou stated.
Matlou explained that SASSA is mandated by the Constitution and the SASSA Act to administer and manage social grant payments to eligible recipients.

He highlighted that regular reviews are a statutory requirement under Regulation 30 of the Social Assistance Act, ensuring beneficiaries continue to meet eligibility criteria based on their current circumstances.
Beneficiaries are legally obliged to notify SASSA of any significant changes in their financial or marital status, a requirement also outlined in their grant approval letters.
Following this, SASSA announced targeted reviews for the 2025/26 financial year in April, focusing on beneficiaries whose circumstances may have changed, potentially affecting their eligibility.
To accommodate these reviews without disrupting the broader payment cycle, Matlou noted that SASSA has introduced a fourth payment date. Beneficiaries undergoing review will now receive their payment on the fourth day of the payment cycle, ensuring they are paid after the necessary assessment.
