The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have backtracked on it’s initial statement that the two suspects arrested in eSwatini are not linked to the murders of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said the reason he did not want to confirm the report that the two men who were arrested in eSwatini are wanted for the slain rapper’s murder was because they did not want to sabotage the case.
However, the story was broken by the Times of eSwatini, who then published the court papers calling SAPS’ bluff which prompted the Police Commissioner to call a late night media briefing on Tuesday, 27 February.
It was then that Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi explained that the first suspect was arrested in April 2023, two months after AKA and his chef friend, Tibz were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road, Durban.
Mkhwanazi said there were 7 suspects in total, 5 of whom appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday, 29 February facing 10 charges.
The 5 suspects, Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande are facing 2 counts of murder, 4 for attempted murder, 2 charges for the possession of firearms and ammunition, and 1 for conspiracy to commit murder.
eSwatini Police arrested the two Durban-based brothers at a house they were renting with one other person who is reportedly still at large.
SAPS are now working with eSwatini authorities to extradite the two suspects who are expected to be charged for their involvement in the high-profiled murders.
While the police are convinced that they have all the men involved in the gruesome murders in custody, Tony Forbes isn’t convinced and still believes that the true mastermind is still at large.
The matter has been postponed for bail verification to 06 March. Three of the suspects will remain in custody at the Chatsworth Police Station, and the remaining 2 men will be held at the Westville Prison.
On 06 March the bail application for the 5 suspects will then be postponed to 14 March, and as the matter will most likely not be concluded, the matter will then be postponed to 18 to 19 March.
Due to forseeable circumstances that will mean the bail application will not be concluded during those two days, the matter will then be postponed to 27 March.
The forseeable postponements are due to the availability of legal representatives.
