SAFTU will be joining the EFF national shutdown on the 20th of March.
The announcement was made when the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) held a press briefing to communicate the decisions of the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday morning.
SAFTU declared that it will participate in the nationwide EFF shutdown on March 20, 2023.

In an effort to safeguard all employees who participate in the strike that day, a section 77 notice has been provided to Nedlac.
‘SAFTU will participate in the National Shutdown, this means we will galvanize & mobilise our own members to join the National shutdown across the country. “
“In fact, we have submitted a section 77 notice to NEDLAC to protect all workers in and outside the federation. This means any work even if they are not a member of the Federation will be protected from victimization from employers.” says Vavi
Zwelinzima Vavi, the general secretary, claims that load shedding at Eskom is an example of a failed state because the government has been unable to handle the problems plaguing the organization for 15 years.
The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg will hear the case on March 20, 2023, and the SAFTU NEC has decided to back the legal action against the government’s declaration of an ongoing national disaster.
