Bheki Cele assures residents of Westbury that more police will be deployed in the community.
Residents of Westbury have been assured by Police Minister Bheki Cele that more police will be stationed there.
Following an increase in gang violence in the neighbourhood, Police Minister Bheki Cele went to the Sophiatown police station on Thursday morning.
Since last Friday, there have been six different shootings, resulting in 11 injuries and two fatalities.

The Minister acknowledged that an interdisciplinary strategy is more important than ever to address the problems in the region. He asserted that the Westbury neighbourhood merits better than what has been occurring.
“We have spoken to the community, and they have briefed us. There are issues that they have raised and we have come up with a mini program that will be unfolding starting today. We might be back here starting on Tuesday again, it is then when we can say more about the program.” says Cele.
