No COVID-19 related deaths were reported in South Africa in the latest report. This makes it the first 24-hour cycle in two years where the pandemic did not claim a life in South Africa.
This is according to a report from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases issued on Monday evening.
The institute reported 785 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,674,042.
Because of the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health, there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Last night the National Department of Health reported 183 deaths, and of these, 0 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 412 to date.
The majority of new cases from the report are from Gauteng (41%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape each with 20% respectively.
