Rea Vaya had initially informed its passengers that services will resume today as a law enforcement plan would be in place to ensure the safety and security of bus drivers, buses and passengers.
News 24 says City of Johannesburg MMC for transport Kenny Kunene told the media on Tuesday that the first shooting occurred at 8.30pm near Mapetla Secondary School.
According to Kunene the eight bullets were fired at the driver while driving but the attackers returned to finish the driver off when the bus stopped.
The driver was allegedly still alive when the paramedics arrived but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Kunene also confirmed that the second attack took place near Curro College in Protea, where 17 bullets were allegedly fired at the driver.
“This is a clear assassination. We don’t want to speculate on the motive, but the police are investigating,” said Kunene.
