President Cyril Ramaphosa has won his urgent application and is granted an interim interdict with regard to former President Jacob Zuma’s bid to further have him privately prosecuted.
After hearing lengthy arguments from Ramaphosa and Zuma’s legal teams last week in the president’s attempt to block the summons for him to appear in court on Thursday in private prosecution proceedings brought by his predecessor, the full bench of the high court rendered its decision on the matter on Monday.

When Zuma filed a complaint with his office on August 19, 2021, Ramaphosa allegedly failed to take action against Downer and Maughan, accusing him of committing a crime.
After Zuma charged Ramaphosa with being an “accessory after the fact” in relation to charges Zuma is pursuing against senior state prosecutor Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan for allegedly leaking his private medical information on August 9, 2021, Ramaphosa made an urgent application to the high court.
