Deputy President Paul Mashatile will be launching the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign on Saturday, 25 November.
The launch is set to take place at the Nsikazi Stadium, Khumbula Village, Gutshwa, in the city of Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
Launched by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, the 16 Days of Activism campaign is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world, calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
This year’s campaign will be commemorated under the theme: Accelerating Actions to end Gender Based Violence and Femicide, leaving no one behind.
Presidency is launching a call to action to raise awareness about the devastating impact that gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) has on women, children, and the entire social fabric.
South Africa will observe 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children from the 25 November until the 10 December, when the world will be commemorating International Human Rights Day, the day that marks the anniversary of the UN Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Deputy President Mashatile will be accompanied by the Minister in The Presidency Responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma; Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu; Premier of the Mpumalanga Province, Ms Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane; members of the Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Council; Mayors as well as senior Government officials.
