The Ministry of Police has expressed concern over recent media reports suggesting the imminent arrest of the National Commissioner of Police.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu stated that his ministry has no knowledge of any such impending arrest.
In a statement released today, the Police Ministry acknowledged the media speculation and noted the response from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) regarding the rumors.
“As the Ministry of Police, we have not been made aware of such impending arrest,” the statement read, directly refuting the claims circulating in various media outlets.
The ministry urged the media to refrain from further speculation, highlighting the potential negative consequences.
“We plead with the media to avoid any speculation on this, as speculation of this nature has an adverse impact on the named person and also has an effect of destabilising the work of the South African Police Service,” the ministry cautioned.
The call for responsible reporting underscores the ministry’s concern about the impact of unverified information on both the individual involved and the broader stability and operations of the national police force.
