Gauteng police have opened an investigation into the deaths of three siblings who became unwell while attending school in Evaton.
On Monday, Tshepiso Tsotetsi in grade 3, Moeketsi Mokhatla in grade 4, and Rethabile Mokhatla in grade 5 arrived at Evaton Primary School with symptoms such as nausea and body aches.
They were transported to a local clinic by teachers and pronounced dead on the spot.
The Gauteng Education Department, along with the school, expressed condolences to the children’s mother, Dibuseng Mokhatla. Local police have launched a concentrated investigation into the cause of the incident.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of these young lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and school communities affected by these devastating incidents. Our psycho-social support team will be dispatched to provide necessary support to everyone involved during this difficult time,” said MEC Chiloane.
