President Cyril Ramaphosa aims to bolster anti-crime, with Operation Prosper which will cost over R492 million for 3 300 members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to be deployed.
Operation Prosper will be a joint operation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to prevent and cobat crime, and maintain law and order.
On Thursday, 09 November Ramaphosa authorised the employment of 3 300 members of SANDF from 28 October 2023 to 28 April 2024.
The Presidency says this operation will be an intensified anti-criminality operation against illegal mining across all provinces.

The operation is expected to cost R492 143 296 for the deployment of SANDF members, and letters of employment have already been sent to the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Mr Amos Masondo.
