NSFAS confirms 2024 applications will open on 21 November.
On November 21, 2023, financial aid applications will be formally opened for all students who want to enroll in post-secondary education programs and for those who do not have the funds to continue their education in the 2024 academic year.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announced on Monday that the deadline for applications for 2024 financing is set for November 21, 2023, and January 31, 2024.
In order to give beneficiaries faster decision-making turnaround times, NSFAS is starting applications in November.
The Department of Higher Education and Training and the NSFAS Board are working together to finalize the financing rules for the 2024–2021 academic year.
According to the plan, the rules would be revealed on November 21, 2023, coinciding with the start of the academic year 2024 application period.

This they say is in line with the financial eligibility evaluation, which calls for up-to-date SARS (South African Revenue Service) data.
“NSFAS is awaiting SARS completion of its tax period and to enable NSFAS to have the necessary and updated information available during our application season. We encourage all students who wish to study in the post school education and training sector higher education and training space to ensure that they apply on time.
“It is also important that students note that they don’t need results when they are entering post school education and training for the first time. Furthermore, NSFAS is engaged in conversation with the Department of Basic Education to improve the application validation processes including verifying parental relationships and all these improvements will ensure that funding decisions are confirmed timeously,”
