Applications for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will only open on Friday, 20 September after being postponed.
Initially, applications were set to open on Monday, 16 September, but were postponed due to stakeholder engagements that were only concluded on Sunday.
Higher Education Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane said the postponement was due to the need to conduct a dry run of its systems.
The applications will also be extended to learners from Grades 9, 10 and 11 who would are entering the technical and vocational training sector.
The NSFAS bursary is open to all South African citizens and permanent residents with a combined household income of not more than R350 000 per annum.
The NSFAS Loan is open to all South African citizens and permanent residents with a combined household income between R350 001 and R600 000 per annum.
NSFAS Bursary covers:
- Registration
- Tuition fees and learning materials
- Living allowance
- Personal care allowance
- Transport or accommodation
NSFAS Student Loan covers:
- Transport or accommodation
- Learning material
- Accommodation
