The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has explained why no one was prosecuted with regards to Anele Tembe’s death.
Anele Tembe, the late fiancée of slain rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, better known as AKA, fell to her death from the 10th floor of a Cape Town hotel, in April 2021.
Tembe was with AKA when she died and the two had a heated argument prior.
In a tell-all interview, a month after her death, AKA shared that his relationship with the 22-year old was tumultuous, experiencing highs that were incredible and lows that were terrifying.
The rapper shared that he was on the phone with hotel reception requesting security, walking out of the bathroom and not seeing Anele anywhere in their room.
He said it was when he was screaming her name, looking for her that he walked to the balcony and looked down, and saw her laying naked on the pavement.
According to the NPA, the decision to not prosecute anyone for Tembe’s death boiled down to extensive investigations by SAPS and prosecutors which entailed expert opinions and forensic reports.
Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Nicolette Bell decided not to prosecute anyone for Anele Tembe’s death due to extensive investigations by SAPS and prosecutors, which entailed expert opinions and forensic reports.
“After careful consideration, Adv. Bell decided not to institute any prosecution in respect of the death of Tembe and that the matter be referred for an inquest to be held.”
The Tembe family was notified about the NPA’s decision in June last year.
While the Tembe family decided to make representations regarding the decision, an inquest in relation to Anele Tembe’s death was delayed.
On Friday, 10 February, AKA was gunned down on Florida Road, Durban outside the restaurant he had just had dinner at.
His death is believed to have been a planned hit, with many questioning whether the death of Anele Tembe played a part in the reason he was killed.
At the time of AKA’s death, the Tembe family had not lodged their representations for the inquest.
Following the death of the multi-award-winning artist, Anele’s father Moses Tembe slammed allegations either he or his family had anything to do with AKA’s death.
