Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux says the faceless National Shutdown which has been unofficially planned for Friday, 10 June, carries a high risk of criminal activity.
This includes looting, destruction and threats of unrest similar to that of July 2021.
While taxi associations have chosen not to get involved in the shutdown, there have been reports of looting and protests in parts of KwaZulu-Natal already.
Nhlanhla Lux and Dudula members will be out in full force in Soweto as a precautionary measure.
“We have already deployed forces all over Soweto ready to defend our communities against any form of criminality that may come from this faceless NATIONAL SHUTDOWN. The guerillas are in position.”
Lux shared with his Twitter followers
So far so good! All corners of Soweto covered!@JoburgMPD & @SAPoliceService strategically placed!

All guerillas⚔️ in position to defend our pple/communities against possible criminal elements such as looting that may come with this FACELESS NATIONAL SHUTDOWN today (10 June).
The controversial leader said that while Dudula is not against the National Shutdown, they do no support any acts of violence or criminality.
For now Soweto remains clear of any disruptions with police and members of Dudula strategically placed.
Calls for a National Shutdown started on social media after the hefty R2,43/litre petrol price increase at the beginning of the month.
Since then, the EFF put its voice behind the shutdown although they have not officially called for it on any of their platforms.
Julius Malema did say that they were open to the shutdown during his press conference earlier in the week, when he revealed the video of the robbery at the President’s farm.
