Former president Nelson Mandela’s world championship boxing belt has been stolen, and Gauteng police have stated that a theft case has been open on Wednesday.
According to authorities, a museum in Soweto housed a World Boxing Council (WBC) championship belt that belonged to the former president.
Legendary American boxer Sugar Ray Leonard presented Mandela with the belt on one of his trips to South Africa.
The belt was stolen, according to police, when burglars broke into the Mandela House museum.
The incident was reported to police on July 1.

According to police spokeswoman Dimakatso Sello, no suspects have been detained, and authorities have issued an appeal for any information regarding the incident.
Sello said: “A boxing belt worth approximately worth R50,000 was stolen at the Mandela House in Vilakazi Street in Soweto.”
“Anyone who may have information about this incident is requested to contact the police. All information received will be treated as strictly confidential.”
