The memorial and funeral details for the late actress Nandi Nyembe have been announced.
According to a postcard posted by digital magazine Actor Spaces on X, the memorial service will be held at The Market Theatre in Newtown on Thursday, 28 August 2025 from 11AM to 3PM.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, 30 August from 7AM to 10AM at a venue that is yet to be confirmed.

This comes after the veteran actress passed away recently at the age of 75, just four days after celebrating her birthday.
Her death was confirmed by her family, together with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in a joint statement on Saturday, 23 August 2025.
“It is with profound sorrow that the Nyembe Family, together with the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, announce the passing of one of South Africa’s most treasured icons of the arts, Mam’ Nandi Nyembe,” the statement read.
While the details of her passing have not been disclosed, it was known that her health had been deteriorating.
A Storied Career
Nyembe’s career spanned several decades, during which she became a familiar and revered face on South African screens. She was best known for her iconic portrayal of Lebo’s mother in the popular ’90s series Yizo Yizo and as Sister Lizzie in the sitcom Stokvel. .
Her talent extended to numerous other productions, including Isibaya, Reyka, Soul City, and Generations. She also appeared in international films such as The Secret Laughter of Women and the 2004 film adaptation of Yesterday.
Nyembe’s enduring legacy is her remarkable ability to bring complex characters to life, captivating audiences with her profound skill and emotional depth.
She will be remembered as a pioneer who helped shape the landscape of South African television and film, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and the hearts of her fans.
