Naeema Marshall was visiting her aunt when she was gunned down, allegedly by a 15-year old boy she had repeatedly rejected.
The 14-year old was shot in point blank range in the head on 17 July, in what is believed to be a fit of rage, after Naeema reportedly rejected the boy’s advances once again.
According to Naeema’s devastated mother, Fadeema Marshall, her daughter was visiting her aunt in Eerste River, Western Cape, where she was cornered by the boy at a local shop.
Speaking out about the incident, Fadeema told New24, “He told her she’s going to see what he’s going to do to her and she responded, saying there was nothing he could do to her because she’s not scared of him.”
Fadeema says the boy was obsessed with her daughter, and wanted her to be his girlfriend, but she told him on a number of occasions that she didn’t feel the same way about him.
The avid netball player, who attended school in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, was laid to rest on Tuesday under Islamic rites.
Police have since arrested the 15-year old who will appear in court facing charges of murder.
