Ace Magashule’s PA, Moroadi Cholota has launched an urgent bid to declare the charges against her unlawful.
The 37-year-old who was extradited from the US at the beginning of August, is facing 6 charges including fraud and corruption for her alleged links to the R255 million asbestos case.
Cholota who was studying in the US when she was extradited to face charges, was leased on bail of R2 500 in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.
Denying the charges against her, Cholota launched a bid to have the charges against her withdrawn and her extradition declared unlawful.
The former PA of Magashule was arrested in April by American authorities and is one of 17 co-accused in the multi-million Rand corruption scandal.
The high-profile case involves Magashule, Edwin Sodi, Thabane Zulu and Nthimotse Mokhesi amongst others, for fraud, corruption and money laundering charges.
Magashule said the charges against him were trumped up and politically motivated with no weight behind the allegations.
Lawyers for Ace Magashule argue that “political activity appears to be the ulterior purpose behind the decision to prosecute him” presenting that “criminal prosecution has neutralised him politically, which appears to have been the objective.”
Magashule was arrested in November 2020, three months after President Cyril Ramaphosa issued him a step-aside rule in August.
Moroadi Cholota is expected to have her bid presented in court on Monday, 26 August.
