Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, is expected to visit Queens High School in Johannesburg, following the death of 15-year old Brian Tatenda Ndlovu.
The Grade 9 learner was reportedly forced to consume a poisonous substance, when he was ambushed in the school bathroom by a group of boys.
On Monday, 07 August, MEC Chiloane will be addressing the school, following the tragedy, with parents demanding the school take action and that Ndlovu receives justice.
The Department says police are still investigating circumstances surrounding Ndlovu’s death, and Chiloane will also be visiting the boy’s family.
“We wish to convey our condolences to the school community and family, our Psycho-Social team will continue to provide necessary counselling.”
Brian Ndlovu died on Monday, 31 July and preliminary reports suggest the boy had a scuffle with another learner at the school before his death.
While an inquest docket has been opened, the exact cause of death hasn’t been established yet.
According to reports, Brian Ndlovu was allegedly forced to consume poison, leading to his untimely death.
The incident has brought the issue of bullying within the school to the forefront, as another parent revealed that her son had also experienced bullying.
Regardless of her call for intervention and warning that one of the incidents may end in tragedy, she received no response or action from the school.
Authorities have opened an inquest docket to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding Brian Ndlovu’s untimely passing.
As per preliminary reports, the victim had engaged in a scuffle with another learner at his school.
Upon returning home, the teenager faced disapproval from his father for being involved in fights at school.
Seeking solace, he turned to a neighbour, who allegedly offered him “something” to relax.
Following the incident, the teenager started experiencing severe vomiting, prompting immediate concern.
He was rushed to the Hillbrow clinic where he was declared dead.
