A man threatened to jump from the roof of the Sunnyside Police Station in Tshwane on Tuesday, 21 March.
Unverified reports suggest the man was trying to escape after being arrested for a crime he committed.
City of Tshwane emergency services had to be deployed to assist in getting the jumper safely off the building.
Tshwane Emergency Services (TES) were called to Sunnyside Police Station around midday to find the man threatening suicide.
Thabo Mabaso from TES said, “We found a man on the rooftop of the Sunnyside Police Station threatening suicide, we put resources on standby, a fire engine and a ladder company. Just after 13h00, we handed over the scene to police.”
The man had been on the roof for hours before a negotiator climbed the ladder to get to him.
After a few moments of negotiations, the negotiator climbed down and left the man on the roof.
Negotiators said they were unable to convince the man to come down and it was police officers who managed to bring the man down to safety.
