Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok, is unfazed by the recent legislative actions intended to outlaw the well-known video app used by 170 million Americans.
A bill that would require TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the app or outright forbid it was approved by the Senate on Tuesday and signed into law by President Biden on Wednesday.
Because of TikTok’s ties to China, Congress passed the measure claiming national security concerns. Legislators and security experts have expressed concern about the possibility that ByteDance could be used by the Chinese government to propagate propaganda or gain access to private information belonging to US citizens.
