Pretoria-based Bacardi singer, Jelly Babie recently found herself in the headlines after a video of her insulting a cashier went viral.
In the video, the 18-year-old told the cashier, named Martha, off and made fun of her intelligence while bragging about making more money.
After facing backlash from the public and her fans, Jelly Babie deactivated some of her social media accounts and stopped her gigs.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jelly Babie humbly returned to the supermarket where she had insulted the woman to apologise for her actions. She also apologised to the entire staff.
“I appreciate every single one of you for taking the time from your work to listen to what I have to say. I came to apologise to Sis Martha and every one of you,” she said. “What I did was a big mistake, and I’ve learned that I can’t just go hurling insults at everyone wherever I go. She taught me a lesson that I’ll never forget.”
Jelly Babie acknowledged that she still has a lot to learn and expressed gratitude to everyone who pointed out her mistakes.
“I want to apologise to everyone who works and everyone deserves to be treated with the same respect”, she said.,
The staff and Jelly Babie seemed to have put the incident behind them, with a warm embrace between her and the employee, turning over a new leaf.
Jellie Babie rose to fame after collaborating on a few songs with the late Vusi Ma Ma R5 who passed away in 2023. The sudden loss brought a lot of attention to her. She was still in grade 11 at the time.
