Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader, Mmusi Maimane is encouraging all Zimbabweans to vote on Wednesday, 23 August.
Maimane’s message of encouragement comes as Zimbabwe holds its National Elections amid the highest inflation rates, since former President Robert Mugabe’s reign.
Mugabe, was removed from office in 2017, and current President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, from the governing Zanu-PF has led the country since.
Mnangagwa’s biggest opposition, Nelson Chamisa from the Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC), came second in the 2018 Zim elections, winning 44% of the vote.
With 11 approved candidates in total at this year’s election, Maimane has called on Zimbabweans who are heading to the polls on Wednesday, to not be discouraged by the long lines, and to cast their vote.
“I call on all Zimbabweans to vote. Do not be discouraged by the lines, do not be discouraged by intimidation, and past election outcomes.
Vote. Vote. Vote. It is imperative that you get every friend and relative to the voting booth.
I call on the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission to publish the election results immediately. I call for a speedy announcement of the overall results, delay in election announcement undermines trust and transparency.
I call upon the SADC and AU observers to be vigilant. Do not turn a blind eye if you see election irregularities. Do no rubber stamp an election that has clear abuses.
In 2008, the global community turned a blind eye and election was stolen. I call for a peaceful election.
Amandla.”
