A 61-year-old woman’s decomposed body was found three years after her death in 2019.
The deceased woman was identified by UK law enforcement as Sheila Seleoane.
Sheila Seleoane was a British-born medical secretary who died in 2019.
According to the Daily Mail, neighbours repeatedly complained about the foul smell that came from her apartment, as well as their homes becoming infested with flies and maggots, however, nothing was done by the apartment’s overseers, the Peabody Trust.
When police finally entered Sheila’s apartment three years later, they made a horrific discovery.
Sheila Seleoane’s decomposed body was found on a sofa.
Police have confirmed that Sheila died of natural causes and that they would not be treating her death as suspicious.
A small funeral service took place in April 2022 and was attended by Sheila’s estranged brother who is imprisoned in the UK and a Peabody Trust representative.
Distant relatives of the deceased were traced to the Eastern Cape in South Africa, where her mother emigrated from in 1954, to work as a doctor’s housekeeper in London.
The Peabody Trust has arranged and paid for Sheila’s remains to return to South Africa.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, a relative Sheila has never met, questioned how no one knew she had died.
“Here when your neighbour isn’t seen for one or two days, you go check up on them. We live as a community… I don’t understand how anyone could pass away and be left for so long”, she said.
